Antifungal resistance (AFR) poses a growing threat to global health, particularly through resistance in Aspergillus fumigatus. Medically critical azoles, essential for treating invasive aspergillosis and other Aspergillus-related diseases, are increasingly rendered ineffective due to environmental exposure to azole fungicides. This complex challenge calls for collaboration among diverse stakeholders to develop effective strategies.
The ABR2AFR International Stakeholder Meeting, held from 19–21 March 2025 at the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment in Bilthoven, The Netherlands, will bring together experts and decision-makers to address this urgent issue. The meeting’s objective is to adapt the proven 6 determinants of successful bacterial antibiotic resistance (ABR) control to tackle antifungal resistance in Aspergillus fumigatus. Together, participants will create a comprehensive AFR road map and finalize a consensus declaration that will guide global efforts.
